From the minute we woke up today it was go go go! Today we decided was going to be our tourist(y) day, where we would try and go see as many of the iconic New York landmarks as we possibly could in a day.
First we started out with a long walk seeing the Flat Iron building heading towards Broadway making our way towards the 9/11 memorial, stopping in every cool looking shop imaginable! Thats where the American flag made out of Converse came from.
Then we arrived at Ground Zero, the 9/11 memorial, which was just breath taking. The way the site is set out with the two waterfalls over looked by the new Liberty Tower which is going to dwarf the World Trade Centres in hight. All around the south tower memorial had the names and either ladder number or station number of the uniformed service men and women that lost their lives trying to save people inside and the surrounding buildings , while on the north tower they had all the names and respective floors of the civilians that lost their lives in the attack. It’s just crazy how much damage was done and seeing how much the city was affected by the attack.
We then continued onto the coastline to go and see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island which was just cool in itself except for the sea was so choppy! and I did not realise before this that I get a little sea sick soooooo was holding onto my lunch the whole time haha.
Then we walked uptown to go and see The Blue Man Group (This link is of the show in Orlando but ours was very similar), that was a lot of fun! I was asked to be in the show by one of the stewards at the beginning of the show but as he asked my hight unfortunately I was too tall and the guy behind me was chosen, that would have been seriously cool.
The show spanned two hours but it just flew by! Not only was drumming amazing the guys with their audience participation were hilarious and we all had an absolute blast!
We finished off a very busy day with going up The Empire State building at night. The view from the top was unreal, being able to see for miles. Seeing Liberty Tower showed how much ground we had covered that day! Joined in the sky line with the Chrysler building and the soft glow of light admitted from Times Square, showing off a very beautiful view of New York at night.
Today has been long and we are all shattered! Tomorrow is Top of the Rock then shopping followed up with a Comedy Central standup show, all should be fun!
